Alex Bank is a man obsessed with science but whom fate has decided to give him something else to focus on for a while. 1 month before his 30th birthday Alex is informed by his father that he must marry before his 30th birthday or he will be forced to marry Lady Olivia who is a vile creature to say the least.Caroline is Olivia's cousin who has resigned herself to spinsterhood, where she can pursue her scientific studies all she wants. Of course it would be easier for Caroline if she was allowed to join the Society of Biological Matters but due to her sex she was denied membersip by none other then Alex Bank.
When it is pointed out to Alex that Caroline would be perfect for him he only has a couple of weeks to not only gain her forgivness for throwing her out of the Society a few years before, but also to win her heart. And he has to do this while trying to understand that people are not like experements, they cannot be easily controlled and studied. He will need to let his heart take the lead if he is going to have any hope of avoiding marriage to Olivia.
This is the 4th book I have read by Rose Gordon and each one is better then the last in my opinion. If you are looking for a romance in which the hero is not a rake and isn't always proving is ablity with the ladies, and a heroine who is more like the girl next door then a spoil heiress expecting the world to be handed to her on a silver platter this is the book for you. You can really feel the characters fall in love as you watch Alex be clueless about women and Caroline's fears of falling in love with her cousins future husband.
I would also suggest that if you love this book that you go back and learn about the rest Banks love stories in Rose's first series while waiting for the next Groom Series to come out.

Her Sudden Groom Groom Series Book 1 edition by Rose Gordon Romance eBooks Reviews
A story that doesn't deliver. It sounded like an interesting premise -- a dull but reasonably attractive man who needs to marry within a few weeks. I couldn't believe he was so obtuse he couldn't see the answer to his problem right in front of him. He found the lady attractive and she shared an interest in science.
She was written as pretty and intelligent, but the character was a little off putting to me. Her cousin was obnoxious -- and that character was written way over the top -- but the heroine wasn't exactly a paragon herself.
When the heroine talked about underwear in front of the hero's parents I had to give up. No way, no matter how relaxed and casual the family's behavior, would this have been acceptable.
I have suddenly found a different book to read.
First off, this is historical lite. Do not expect accuracy or even specific details of anything historic. I gave up at precisely 54℅. When Caroline's dress is ruined, instead of putting on another dress, she climbs in the carriage in a shredded nightgown and then runs across the lawn of a family estate to get to the house. Not her family's estate. Someone else's. With a house full of guests. We are suddenly told she has no suitable clothes, although not once in the first half of the book as she goes on outings and visits are her clothes ever mentioned. She never feels sad she is badly dressed, never in her thoughts compares the clothing of the other well to-do ladies to her own, never struggles as she gets dressed each day to find an outfit, never even describes her clothes, ever. Then she is dashing about in a shredded night rail. What happened to the rest of her clothes? Just ridiculously stupid. Honestly the book was just meh up till then. Gave me an excellent excuse to delete and move on. Alternate recommendation The Unflappable Miss Fairchild. I loved it, you will too!
I am amazed that says this book has 4 stars. Because of that rating, I was ready to enjoy it, and I read several chapters. I am giving up, though, after reading more of the reviews and being convinced that it won't be getting any better. My first complaint is that the book is boring. Nothing has happened up to the point where I stopped reading except introducing the characters and the premise that our Hero has to marry someone in the next month. While that is hardly an original premise, I was willing to give the book a chance. I even sort of like our Hero and heroine. Overall, though the characters are simply not believable in the time period of the book. I don't know if the author was going for farce, parody, or madcap humor, but several characters, such as the "fiancée'" of our Hero, are beyond belief (and not amusing, either). And, the author has the unpleasant fiancée go to Bath, to take a bath as a cure for a broken foot, as a one-day journey. Unless the two estates that are the subject of the book are within a mile of Bath, I don't see how such a one-day journey could take place. And, I think drinking the waters was the more traditional "cure" offered in Bath, rather than taking a bath. Maybe the most unbelievable aspect of the story to me is that the residents of the two estates that are within easy travel of each other, owned by titled gentlemen, obviously, aren't familiar with the residents of the other estate. I think members of the ton pretty much knew everybody else in the ton, especially those who lived in their vicinity. Our heroine was not aware of the siblings of our Hero. hmmm. In any case, these characters were boring, not very fun, and not consistent with the time period the author chose for her book. I won't be reading any more from this author, and I guess I will be even more skeptical of ratings.
